ABOUT
If, with the literate, I am
Impelled to try an epigram,
I never seek to take the credit;
We all assume that Oscar said it.
Dorothy Parker, “Oscar Wilde”
Oscar Said It. is run by Sydney-based freelance writer Nicole Thomas. Nicole has over 10 years’ experience in the publishing field and has written about almost every industry imaginable. That generalisation includes architecture, design, music, beauty, marketing, health, psychology, business, fashion, real estate and agribusiness.
Unlike her more sensible counterparts, Nicole started her journey with a Graduate Diploma in Editing and Publishing from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Sydney. In 2017, she completed a course in Digital Marketing to gain more insight into the needs of her clients and to provide more holistic solutions for them.

How can I brief you? I don’t even know what I want.
If you know what service you’re providing, we’ll get there. First, we’ll sit down and talk about your company, what your company wants to say and how we can help it say it. I’ll ply you with questions and together we will create great copy that speaks to your customers.
I know exactly what I want. When can you do it and for how much?
My rates will depend on the complexity of the brief and the level of urgency. Give me a buzz and we can talk it through.
What’s up with your business name?
Well, a few things. First, I have a very generic name. Nicole Thomas. Second, my writing and the voice of your business should be in perfect sync. Dorothy Parker’s poem “Oscar Wilde” encapsulates that idea for me. (And yes, I’m appropriating the true meaning of the poem to my own ends, but hey, good writing works on myriad levels, right?)
Q&A
Your tone is very colloquial. I don’t think you’re right for me...
That’s the thing about being a trained writer with a range of experience – I can adapt my tone to suit most audiences. I’m taking an informal tone because that is me: approachable and human. Have a look at my writing to see how many personas I can reach out to.
Thanks. Do you design and take happy snaps as well?
Oscar Said It. is about symbiosis, not cannibalism. Good folk have spent years honing their skills to become damn good designers and photographers, as I have to become a damn good writer. I do happen to know some super talented creatives, so if you need some visuals to accompany my gleaming copy, I'll point you in the right direction.
